By an American Citizen Author: [Adams, John] Place: Boston Publisher: Russell & Cutler Date: 1805 Description: (3)-248 pp. (8vo) 23.5x14 cm (9¼x5½") original paper-backed boards, remnants of spine label, pages untrimmed. First Book Edition. The first book edition of this series of essays written by John Adams for publication in the Gazette of the United States during his first year of his term as the first Vice President of the United States. With the ownership signature of John W. Hulbert, Member of the House of Representatives from Massachusetts, in office 1814-1817. Also with a later (c.1830) ownership signature of Ambrose Cowdery, Cowdery served during the American Revolution in Captain Parsons' Company of the 2nd Connecticut Regiment. Lot Amendments Condition: Some wear to boards, early stitched repairs at spine edge through both boards and all leaves; foxing throughout; good. Rare, especially so in the original boards.
