Foreword by Leopold Stokowski. New York: Simon & Schuster, 1940. Folio (12 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches; 320x240 mm). 15 colored plates, numerous illustrations. Light brown cloth, lettered in blue, original colored pictorial dust-jackets, cloth slipcase. Condition : dust-jacket worn and chipped. Provenance : Mickey (?)Basoseldor (presentation inscription "To Mickey Basoseldor My Best Wishes, Walt Disney", additionally signed by four others). an excellent copy of the first edtion, with a presentation inscription by disney and four of the animators who worked on the movie: Frank Thomas (signed twice), Ollie Johnston (signed twice), Maurice Noble and Marc Davis. Fantasia is arguably the greatest of all Walt Disney's movies: number 58 on the American Film Institute's 1998 list of the "100 Greatest American Films of all time", and it is considered by the Library of Congress to be "culturally, historically and aesthetically significant". The present work is an important early record of the film's achievements, with contributions from American composer and music critic Deems Taylor (who serves as the host for the film), Leopold Stowkowski (1882-1977) who directed the recording of the soundtrack of classical music which is at the heart of the movie, and of course Walt Disney himself. As a sort of bonus this copy also includes the signatures of four of the animators whose work was an essential feature of the movie.
