London: George Goulding 1789. 4to, mauve half morocco gilt, t.e.g., by Bayntun, spine browned, joints cracked, second and fourth folding maps torn and repaired, slight repaired tear to Aa2, some spotting at front, some offsetting from plates to text . FIRST EDITION, LARGE AND THICK PAPER ISSUE (though cut down by the binder), half-title, five folding engraved maps, 17 engraved plates, three folding, most by Barlow after W. Hogan, 7 by Peter Mazell after William Lewin of birds, shells and crabs, these seven COLORED BY HAND. A series of 49 letters signed "W.B." The writer was William Beresford and his work was edited by Dixon, who dedicated it to Sir Joseph Banks. "The accounts of this expedition relate largely to the geography, ethnology, and natural history of the American coast from Nootka Sound northward."--Hill, p. 23; Sabin 64590; Howes D365; Streeter sale VI, 3484; Zimmer p. 174.
