DOCTORATE OF THEOLOGY, granted to Ludovicus Puggiolus by the University of Bologna, in Latin, with notarial stamp and signature, illuminated manuscript on vellum, Bologna, 14 June 1623 An attractive doctoral diploma manuscript produced in Bologna for Ludovicus Puggiolus, one of Bologna's Fratres Cruciferi and so probably a resident of the Order's chief house, Santa Maria di Morella, before its suppression in 1656. PROVENANCE : MAURICE BURRUS , no 461. Purchased from Lauria in 1935. PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION : 235 x 170mm. 9 + i, COMPLETE . 16 lines, ruled space: 180 x 120mm. ONE MINIATURE depicting the Virgin and Child (f.1v) facing a title-page with a large initial 'G' in liquid gold, gold capitals throughout (small hole at the base of all leaves). Contemporary red morocco gilt, silk ties.
