(9¼x6¼"), removed from a library binder with cloth tape along spine, custom morocco-backed folding case. First Edition. Rare documents in one of the most famous, and notorious, land-grabbing cases in California history, as the United States Government sought outlying lands on the San Francisco peninsula; as an old pencil note on the title-page notes: "Effort by the U.S. to retain the land about San Francisco. In 1865 the case was finally dispensed (?) and in favor of the city. Justice Field rendered the decision." OCLC/WorldCat lists only five copies, at Saint Patrick's Seminary & University, the San Francisco Public Library, University of California Berkeley, University of California Irvine, and the California State Library. Greenwood 529; Sabin 76046. Not in Cowan, Eberstadt, Graff or Howes. Lot Amendments Condition: Some creasing and extremity wear, light foxing, about very good. Item number: 232053
