DODART, Denis and Nicolas ROBERT [ Estampes pour servir l'histoire des plantes. ] Paris: [circa 1786]. Broadsheets (518 x 387 mm). Engraved throughout, without title and text (as issued). 161 engraved plates (numbered in ink 1-159 with two bis. plates) by Nicolas Robert Abraham Bosse and Louise de Chatillon after Roberts, with occasional engraved additions and alterations by Jean Marchant all numbered in ink, mostly with additional captions in ink or pencil. (Light darkening or dust soiling, last 20 plates with marginal ink stain). Contemporary calf (rebound, old sides laid down). Provenance : purchased from Hamill and Barker, 1962. A SELECTION OF NICOLAS ROBERT PLATES ISSUED AS ROYAL GIFTS AND A MASTERPIECE OF THE GREATEST NATURAL ARTIST OF THE SEVENTEENTH CENTURY.
