London: Richard Clay and Sons for Macmillan, 1887. 8 o (185 x 126 mm). Wood-engraved diagram frontispiece and numerous diagrams in text; complete with original printed envelope (some minor soiling, a few tears along folds), containing the separate card-diagram, both dated 1887, and nine counters (four pink and five gray). Original red cloth, gilt-stamped on front cover, spine gilt-lettered (some minor soiling). FIRST PUBLISHED EDITION. "This edition, as with Alice's Adventures, [was] dated a year later than the true first edition: it is an entire reprint by Clay and Sons, of E. Baxter's Oxford work, and was speedily made, for the author's own copy reached him on 22 Feb. 1887" (Williams-Madan-Green-Crutch 196). (2)
