Contemporary tan straight-grained morocco gilt (some light rubbing). Provenance : Robert Hudson (bookplate); T.H.T. Hopkins, Magdalen College, Oxford (inkstamp on Hudson's bookplate). FIRST EDITION. The fine plates are drawn largely from specimens in Donovan's own collection. Donovan considered this work to be the second volume of what he calls his General Illustration of Entomology . The companion works are therefore An Epitome...of the Insects of India (1800-04) and An Epitome... of the Insects of New Holland, New Zealand, New Guinea, Otaheite (1805). Nissen ZBI 1143.
