Beschreibung:

Doyle (Sir Arthur Conan): The Wanderings of a Spiritualist, Presentation copy, inscribed by Conan Doyle on the title "R. Blatchford from Arthur Conan Doyle 1922", and by Robert Blatchford on the endpaper, frontispiece portrait, light browning to edges of title, original cloth, extremities of spine bumped and slightly rubbed, New York, [1921] - with a battered copy of Robert Blatchford's My Eighty Years, 1931 and another about Blatchford (3) Conan Doyle became involved in spiritualism with his later years and met Blatchford through spiritualist preaching, although it is likely they knew of each other for some time. Blatchford, a journalist, founder of the Fabian Society and "Clarion" and said, by some, to be the founder of the Labour Party, deeply admired Conan Doyle and most likely sought out his acquaintance. Provenance: The present owner's grandfather looked after Robert Blatchford's daughter. Tipped in is an autograph letter, signed Dolly, "I found this book among Dads (sic) and I thought you might like to have it. You will see it was sent from Conan Doyle himself", 6th September, 1944
