1832 DR. JOHN H. BRINTON MANUSCRIPT MEMOIRS Typewritten manuscript, dated 1891, of his activity during the Civil War and his life after the war. Dr. Brinton graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1850 and from the Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University in 1852. He served as a brigadier surgeon in the American Civil War, later as a member of General Ulysses S. Grant's staff. Brinton succeeded Dr. Samuel D. Gross as chair of surgery at Jefferson College and served as the chairman of the MŸtter Museum Committee of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia. He also founded the Philadelphia Pathological Society and was the first curator of the National Museum of Health and Medicine in Washington, D.C.; Provenance: Ex libris Sarah Brinton Wentz (Dr. Brinton's daughter). Some chipping to the edges of the pages. Wear and staining to covers/binding. Overall toning to paper. Estimate: $2,500 - $3,500
