DUGUAY-TROUIN, René (1673-1736). Memoires de Monsieur Du Gué-Trouin . Amsterdam: Pierre Mortier, 1730. First ‘pirate’ edition, printed 10 years before the first authorized edition. Duguay-Trouin was one of France's most illustrious seamen and corsairs, whose naval career saw him actively engaged against the British, including at the Battle of the Lizard in 1707. This pirate edition contains many details that were later suppressed in the authorized edition of 1740 at the request of Cardinal Fleury.
