Dunhill Namiki, a maki-e lacquer fountain pen, 'Rakucho and Cherry Blossom', Anniversary edition 93/100, 1996, with takamaki-e decoration overall depicting the mythical Rakucho bird amidst cherry blossom, the barrel signed with artist's signature and kao, with an 18 carat gold iridium tipped nib, in a lacquered ashwood presentation box with the certificate of authentication, a crystal inkwell, and the accompanying catalogue The pen, along with three others, was produced in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the collaboration between Alfred Dunhill and Rysuke Namiki in 1926. It is based on an original 1930s design. In Japanese culture the Rakucho bird represents the peaceful harmony in heaven, while the cherry blossom is a symbol of the transcience of human life
