Contemporary red morocco gilt, with central gilt arms of Napoleon III. FIRST EDITION. Dupart gives accounts of the different state printers in France from the time of Francis I, who instituted the distinction of "Printer of the King." Included is the history of the "L'Imprimerie Royale" and its directors as well a description of the present institution. The appendix includes a statement of the French laws regarding printing and there is a fascinating comparative table of the Roman and Italic characters employed by the Imperial Printing Office from 1640 to the 19th-century.
