Very fine contents in very good envelope. Partial kit: lacking the membership card and the EC sticker. Authorized reproduction of the EC Fan-Addict Club Kit, released by Dave Gibson in 1971 in an edition said to be "only a few hundred" (see Grant Geissman's Collectibly MAD: The Mad and EC Collectibles Guide , pp. 68-69). Includes: manila envelope printed "This is the Only Original Duplicate EC FAN ADDICT KIT"; full-color membership certificate; embroidered patch ("Mad Member - EC Fan-Addict Club"); five facsimile fan club bulletins brimful of antiquated EC news and gossip ("The Harvey Kurtzman's new arrival arrived... a furshlugginer boy... Peter John (pronounced Potrezebie"). An Alfred E. Neuman "What -- Me Worry? I Read MAD!" print is included just for laffs. "My son Paul, who is eleven years old, belongs to the E.C. Fan-Addict Club, [an] organization set up as a promotional device by the Entertaining Comics Group, publishers of Mad ('Tales Calculated to Drive You MAD–Humor in a Jugular Vein')... Tales from the Crypt, the Vault of Horror, Weird Science-Fantasy, Shock SuspenStories ('Jolting Tales of Tension in the E.C. Tradition'), and, I imagine, other such periodicals. For his twenty-five cent membership fee... the E.C. Fan-Addict receives a humorously phrased certificate of membership, a wallet-size 'identification card,' a pin and a shoulder patch bearing the club emblem, and occasional mailings of the club bulletin, which publishes chitchat about the writers, artists and editors... and in general tries to foster in the membership a sense of identification with this particular publishing company and its staff. The E.C. Fan-Addict Club Bulletin Number 2, March 1954, also suggests some practical activities for the members: 'Everytime you pass your newsstand, fish out the E.C.'s from the bottom of the piles or racks and put 'em up on top.... but please, you monsters, do it neatly! '" -Robert Warshow, "Paul, the Horror Comics and Dr. Wertham." Commentary [June, 1954]. Reprinted in The Immediate Experience: Movies, Comics, Theatre and Other Aspects of Popular Culture [Doubleday: 1962]. Consignments Accepted for PBA's Next Comic Book Auction. Golden Age, Silver Age, Pre-Code, Original Art, Interesting Ephemera Sought. Contact [email protected] for details. PBA COMICS March 26th Comic Book Sale catalogues available. Supplies Limited. Softcover catalogues limited to 200 copies ($45 + $5 postage/handling). Hardcovers limited to 26 lettered copies, dust jackets, special limitation plates ($150). Contact [email protected]
