Small folio (ca. 36 x 27 cm.), late 19th-cent. gilt panelled red chagrin with engraved SILVER PLAQUE (dep. a coat-of-arms, ca. 8,5 x 7 cm.) mounted on upper cover & large gilt supra-libros (dep. a laurel wreath with “1837-1887” in the centre, ca. 12,5 x 12,5 cm.) on lower cover, gilt inside dentelles, gilt(-lettered) ribbed spine, all edges gilt. ¶ Rare Dutch Bible (only 2 copies in NCC) edited by the Dutch theologian Anthony Brummelkamp (1811-1888) bound in an impressive late 19th-cent. book-binding (with bookseller’s ticket of “J.F. Sikken [..] Amsterdam” mounted on verso first free end-paper) illustrated with 100 large-sized wood-engravings after the French artist GUSTAVE DORÉ (1832-1883). Ex bibliotheca Dr. Lambertus van Doesburgh (1837-1915, Dutch physician) with calligraphed dedication leaf in red & black ink (partly heightened with gold) by the Dutch calligrapher Antonie Grevenstuk (1829-1896) on the occasion of Van Doesburgh’s 50th birthday in 1887. – A few minor imperfections to the binding (occ. stained, sl. rubbed/ worn along extremities). A few wood-engravings with small waterstain in lower blank margin, a few preliminary leaves sl. marg. waterstained, 1 preliminary leaf sl. creased/ frayed in lower blank margin, occ. sl. foxed/ browned, but nevertheless in good condition.
