Beschreibung:

Early Moscow-maker, 1821-1722 A Russian Baroque silver beaker, of light tapering form, curved top, pricked body, chased and embossed with stylized flowers in cartouches. Cyrillic maker's mark DI, assayer Mikhail Mokeiev (1721–1722), Moscow town mark (in the form of the Russian Warrant). Engraved with owner's Cyrillic initials IB in the bottom. Weight c. 80 g. H. 9 cm. Diam. 7.5 cm. It could possibly be by the Moscow-maker Dmitri Ivanov, though he is registered as active 1739–1762. In 1721–1722, Tsar Peter the Great issued laws of Russian gold- and silversmiths guilds with stamp rules after European model. Thus, the above mentioned Mikhail Mokeiev was the very first assay master in Moscow. Provenance: The Danish Envoy and Consul General Hans Poul Hoffmeyer (1893–1962). Thence by descent with residence in Denmark, until today.
