EASTERN EDGED WEAPONS A SMALL GOLD-DAMASCENED PERSIAN JAMBIYA, TWO SILVER-MOUNTED JAMBIYAS, A LARGE SPANISH NAVAJA, AND A CROSSBOW BOLT THE FIRST DATED 1790, THE SECOND 19TH CENTURY, THE THIRD LATE 19TH CENTURY, THE LAST 16TH/17TH CENTURY The first with watered blade of characteristic form roughly chiselled with animals on both sides of the forte and inlaid in brass 'made by Hassan', the waisted iron hilt and scabbard entirely gold-damascened with scrolling foliage, religious invocations and the date 1211 A.H.; the second comprising two North African jambiyas, one with waisted hilt, and leather-covered scabbard, the other with silver-mounted horn hilt and scabbard chased with scrollwork, the scabbard involving Arabic inscriptions on both sides; the third of characteristic form, with brass- and bone-mounted grip-scales pierced with holes, the blade decorated on each side with inscriptions and foliage filled with red pigment; the last with pyramidal iron head, and flighted wooden shaft The first 10½in.
