Title: Edouard Manet Sein Leben und seine Kunst Author: Duret, Théodore Place: Berlin Publisher: Paul Cassirer Date: 1910 Description: 320, [2] pp. Translated by E. Waldmann-Bremen. Illustrated with two etchings, a color woodcut, and numerous other images. 10¼x8¼, period marbled boards, leather spine label. The etchings are printed on pale brown laid paper; they are a portrait of Berthe Morisot and a portrait of Charles Baudelaire in profile. The woodcut is printed in brown and black, depicting a nude odalisque with cat. Duret's scholarship was very important for establishing Manet's reputation. These plates were made at the Pan-Presse. Lot Amendments Condition: Some sunning to boards; few mild handling marks internally, one tiny marginal soil to woodcut, one tiny foxmark to verso only of second etching; overall, fine.
