EDWARD I (1239-1307), king of England. Walter Langton (d.1321) had been treasurer of the exchequer since 1295, and was rewarded in the following year with the bishopric of Lichfield; by the end of Edward I's reign he was the king's closest confidant and virtually first minister, and he was appointed executor on Edward's death just over three months after the present grant.
