Edward Leicester Atkinson (1881-1929) RYS Terra Nova surgeon/parasitologist, an archive of nineteen letters to 'Chippie' FE C Davies 1910 to 1940 on various letterheads including 'HMS St Vincent First Battle Squadron' and '15 Queen Anne Street, Cavandish Square'. The letters cover the immediate post Expedition period and First World War. in a letter dated the 16th July 1913, to 'Dear Chippie' Atkinson asks Davies 'Have you been able to do anything to the plans of hut and ship yet as I want to send in the Report to the Admiralty'. Other topics include the loss of fellow team member Harry Pennell aboard HMS Queen Mary, correspondence with other expedition members Tom Crean (1877-1938) and Cherry Garrard (1886-1959). in a letter dated 19th June, 1916 Atkinson writes 'The Committee have offered me the command of the search party for Shackleton's Relief and I had asked for Captain Pennell for the ship. I wish to god it had come off and he had been out of the Queen Mary' Together with a copy of 'With Scott Before the Mast'.
