Morison, Washington, D.C., 19 June 1957. 1 page, 4to, on White House stationery, matted with 7½ x 9¼ inch photo signed ("Dwight D Eisenhower") of Eisenhower in uniform with Admiral Alan Kirk and another officer, who have also signed . EISENHOWER IN PRAISE OF HISTORIAN MORISON. A cordial letter in which Eisenhower praises the histories written by Morison and thanks him for the inscribed copy of the latest volume; "I daresay that the current volume will surpass all the others --- at least in exciting my personal memories of that particular phase." Eisenhower informs Morison that he is "delighted to autograph the picture" and that he has returned it with the letter. Unexamined out of frame. Eisenhower sends an apologetic letter in which he explains why he will be unable to attend a Danish event or performance in New York. Eisenhower writes that he spends his winters in California and thus had to "announce a policy of accepting no invitations for social affairs during my wintry sojourn ... I normally spend from a week to two weeks in Mexico during early March or late February ... my friends and I are never certain as to the exact timing of this trip." Melchior, who was born in Denmark, was a well known opera singer who performed mostly in the United States. Together two items . (2)
