EISENHOWER, Dwight D. Photograph, signed and inscribed, n.d. [ca. 1952]. 10 x 8in. Signed along lower edge. [With:] EISENHOWER. Pencil sketch of Abraham Lincoln, no date. 1p., 8vo, on White House stationery. A FINE EISENHOWER PHOTO AND INSCRIPTION AND A REMARKABLE SKETCH OF LINCOLN BY IKE . The head-shot portrait of Eisenhower in his 5-star, NATO uniform reads: “For YNC Helen E. Weaver – with deep appreciation of outstanding service at SHAPE, and with lasting personal regard. Dwight D. Eisenhower ” SHAPE was the acronym for Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, the forerunner to the NATO command that Eisenhower would assume from 1951 until his run for the presidency in 1952. YNC (Chief Yoeman) Weaver was General Eisenhower’s personal secretary in Paris, and later served with him in the White House, from 1953-1957. An unsigned photo of Ike and Weaver, dated 29 May 1957, is also included with the lot. The Lincoln sketch, presumably executed during a tedious White House meeting, is a remarkable likeness of the 16th President by the 34th.
