Autograph Letter Signed ("Dwight D. Eisenhower"), 1 p, 8vo, Frazer, CO, July 23, 1952, to Edward G. Olsen, leaf mildly toned, otherwise fine, with typed carbon of Olsen's letter to Eisenhower dated July 20, 1952. Eisenhower pens this note soon after he was nominated by the Republican Party to run for President. Olsen was a visiting professor at Columbia who was building his own autograph collection, and he took the opportunity to ask Eisenhower to sign a typed excerpt from one of his speeches. Eisenhower responded thus: "In returning your card I apologize for the appearance of my signature. In the fishing camp where I'm spending my few days of vacation, the only pen I have is a bit on the balky side! Anyway, I'm flattered that you should consider an excerpt from a talk of mine worthy of preservation." See illustration.
