EISENHOWER, Dwight David, President . Engraved document signed ("Dwight D Eisenhower") as President, countersigned by Walter B. Smith (Acting Secretary of State), Washington, D.C., 15 August 1953. 18¾ x 22¾ in., elaborately engraved in a fine copperplate hand, filled out in matching calligraphy, large paper embossed Great Seal of the United States at lower left, printed on good quality parchment paper, framed. Appointing John A. Roosevelt a member of the Government Contract Committee. It was the 1952 Eisenhower race for President that prompted John A. Roosevelt to join the Republican Party. Partly due to his prominent name, he was named chairman of Citizens for Eisenhower; after the election he was tapped to serve on this board to help enforce non-discrimination clauses in industrial contracts for the government.
