The first yeere of the Raigne of our Soveraign Lady Queen Elizabeth -- Articles to be enquired of the visitation, in the First yeere of the Raign of our most dread Soveraign Ladie Elizabeth... Anno Dom. 1559 . [London: By assignment of R. Barker, 1600]. 2 parts in one volume, 4 o (183 x 136 mm). Woodcut title borders [McKerrow & Ferguson 165]. (Inner margin of title renewed, lacking the final blank.) Modern red morocco gilt, edges gilt, by Riviere (front cover detached). Provenance : John L. Clawson (bookplate; sold Anderson Galleries, 21 May 1926, lot 31). Later edition. This work provides interesting insight into the laws of Elizabethan England, especially concerning the rules governing printing: "And because many Pamphlets, Playes, and Ballads, be oftentimes printed, wherein regard would bee had, that nothing therein should be either hereticall, seditious, or unseemly for Christian eares, her Majestie lykewise commandeth, that no manner of person shall enterprise to Print any such except the same bee to him licenced." STC 10110 and 10133.
