ELIZABTHAN POLEMIC] SALISBURY, ROBERT CECIL, Earl. Copie of a letter to the Right Honourable the Earle of Leycester, Lieutenant generall of all her Majesties forces in the united Provinces of the lowe Countreys ... Christopher Barker London, 1586. Modern full mottled calf. 7 x 5 1/8 inches (18 x 13 cm); [4-including "Dieu et mon Droit" frontispiece], 3, [1], 4-32, [1] pp., lacking terminal blank. The binding has an erroneous attribution to Richard Crompton stamped at the center of the front board (the "R.C." signature of the initial epistle has led to this work sometimes being attributed to him). The frontispiece shows evidence of restoration, a few leaves have marginal dampstains, and there are some early ink annotations. The William Stirling Maxwell copy, with his pencilled notes. The text relates to the proposed execution of Mary, Queen of Scots. ESTC S109079. C
