London: For G. Robinson, 1782. 2 volumes, 8 o (240 x 145 mm). 22 engraved plates, including folding chart (lacks half-titles, scattered pale foxing and offsetting). Contemporary speckled calf (rebacked). FIRST EDITION. Ellis, Surgeon's Mate during Cook's second voyage, ignored the command to surrender all journals and logs at journey's end. Financial trouble prompted him to sell his narrative to a bookseller for fifty guineas.
