engraved frontispiece, title in red and black, woodcut head- and tail-pieces, contemporary ink signature erased at head of title, occasional spotting, a few small stains, very lightly browned, contemporary calf, gilt spine in compartments, lacking label, spine ends chipped, 1 corner worn, rubbed, [Vicaire p.523; cf. Cagle 17; Not in Bitting], 8vo, Brussels, Jean Leonard, 1720. *** Scarce. It is divided into six books. The first three and largest books are devoted to cookery, including bread, cakes, wine, cider and other drinks; ices, pickles, jams, dried fruit, butter; vegetables, meat, fish and soups. The fourth book covers gardening, with much on fruit, vegetables, flowers and trees. The fifth book covers hunting and fishing and discusses all manners of hunting, including falconry and the hunting of hares, game birds and wolves. The sixth and final book 'secrets du menage' looks at livestock (including how to tell a good cow), fountains, making liqueurs and killing rats along with other countryside hints
