L'atlas est une version miniature du Theatrum Orbis Terrarum d'Abraham Ortelius. Cet atlas de poche est publié pour la première fois sous le titre Spieghel der Werelt (Le Miroir du Monde) en 1577, le nom "Epitome" apparaît pour la première fois dans l'édition en français de Philippe Galle, en 1588, avec une nouvelle page de titre et le nom d'Ortelius ajouté. - Second Latin edition of the Epitome published by Philippe Galle, published in Antwerp by Plantin. Illustrated with an allegorical plate and 94 maps. Contains a world map, the 4 continents, maps of Europe (France, Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland, Malta, Cyprus, Greece, Hungary, Poland, Livonia, Russia), maps of Asie (Tartary, India, China, Persia, Turkey, Palestine) and maps of Africa (Egypt, Barbaria and Abyssinia).The atlas is a pocket version of the Ortelius's Theatrum Orbis Terrarum. The first pocket-size atlas appeared in 1577 under the name Spieghel der Werelt, the name "Epitome" first appeared in the edition of Philippe Galle in French, in 1588, with the name of Abraham Ortelius added on the title.
