ESCO FOUNDATION FOR PALESTINE
ESCO FOUNDATION FOR PALESTINE Palestine. A study of Jewish, Arab, and British policies . New Haven: Yale University Press: 1947. 2 volumes, 8° (235 x 155mm). 9 maps, 1 graph, and 3 facsimiles of documents, COMPLETE WITH THE EXTREMELY RARE MAP OF PALESTINE colour-printed on three sheets with single-sheet list of Jewish settlements. (Occasional faint browning and spotting to just a few leaves in both vols, the map with two tiny holes to one creasefold on sheet 1 and occasional faint browning to a couple of other creasefolds, but otherwise in fine condition.) Text-vols in original blue cloth (spines slightly faded and extremities lightly rubbed), 3-sheet map in separate card slipcase with printed paper label (extremities lightly stained and rubbed). COMPREHENSIVE OVERVIEW OF PALESTINE . The Esco Foundation derived its name from an acrostic of the name of one of its founders, Ethel S. Cohen, who, along with her husband Frank, conceived the Foundation's objective of gathering all the available information on Palestine in a readily accessible format. Based on the contributions of some twenty specialists on the Middle East, the Esco Foundation rewrote their articles into the current work, and covers from the late 19th century all the way through to the Anglo-American Committee of Inquiry of 1946 (see lots 404-406). There is an extremely useful bibliography at the end. Although called for in the list of contents, THE MAP IS EXCEPTIONALLY RARE IN COMMERCE , and rarely found with the text. Khalidi & Khadduri 555 (not calling for the 3-sheet map).
