Esquirol Jean Étienne Dominique. Della alienazione mentale o della pazzia in genere e in ispecie. Milano: Felice Rusconi, 1827-1829. Due volumi in-8° (mm 203x126). Pagine XXVII, [1], 234, [14] impresse al solo recto, contenenti l'Indice, con 6 tavole incise su rame ritraenti le deformazioni dell'espressività umana causate dalla follia; VIII, 266, [12] impresse al solo recto, contenenti l'Indice, con 5 tavole incise su rame. Leggere fioriture, ma buon esemplare. Legatura coeva in mezza pelle, piatti ricoperti con carta cailloutè, dorso con titolo impresso in oro decorato da filetti dorati; tagli spruzzati in azzurro. Prima edizione in volume dei trattati del celebre psichiatra Esquirol, uno dei testi inaugurali della psichiatria moderna, nella traduzione di Luigi Calvetti, medico ordinario dell'Ospedale Maggiore e della Casa dei pazzi di Bergamo. La presente edizione precede di circa dieci anni la prima in lingua originale, che verrà pubblicata a Parigi nel 1838 con il titolo Des maladies mentales considerées sous le rapports médical, hygiénique et médico-légal, ampliata, al fine di celebrare la lunga e prestigiosa carriera quarantennale dell'Autore, considerato il padre dellamoderna neuropsichiatria. Gli scritti che costituiscono l'opera dall'alienista francese, vennero per la prima volta pubblicati tra il 1821 e il 1826 sul Dictionnaire des sciences médicales inaugurando l'utilizzo di un approccio scientifico al problema della follia, che appare agli occhi di Esquirol una sorta di prisma attraverso cui osservare l'interiorità. Grande rilievo assumono le tavole raccolte alla fine dei due volumi: Esquirol instaura una relazione circolare, di causalità reciproca, tra il fisico e il morale, affermando il concetto di corporeità della follia, che si esprime nelle variazioni della fisionomia. This edition precedes by about ten years old the first in the original language, to be published in Paris in 1838 under the title Des maladies mentales considerées sous le rapports medical supplies, hygiénique et médico-légal, enlarged, in order to celebrate the long and distinguished career fortieth anniversary of the author, considered the father dellamoderna neuropsychiatry. The writings that make up the French dall'alienista work, were first published between 1821 and 1826 on the Dictionnaire des sciences médicales inaugurating the use of a scientific approach to the problem of madness, which appears in the eyes of some sort Esquirol prism through which to view the interior. Great importance, taking the plates collected at the end of the two volumes: Esquirol establishes a circular relationship, mutual causality, between the physical and the moral, stating the concept of corporeality of madness, which is expressed in variations of physiognomy.
