Author: Paff, Adam E.M., editor Place: Boston Publisher: Houghton Mifflin Company Date: 1923 Description: Volume 3 only. xx, [124] pp. Illustrations from photographs; original etched frontispiece. (4to) original linen-backed gray boards. No. 42 of 525 copies. First Edition. Original signed etching as frontispiece, with tissue guard. First Edition of the third volume in the catalogue raisonne issued by Paff between 1917 and 1929 (a supplementary volume was added in 1959). Frank Weston Benson (1862-1951) was already well established as one of America's leading artists when he took up etching in 1912, and his popular success in that medium was immediate and long-lasting. He specialized in game birds, with occasional portraits of duck hunters. Lot Amendments Condition: Light wear, rubbing with fraying at spine ends, spine label lightly scratched, corners bumped, mild sunning to boards; closed tear to front free endpaper, occasional stains, mild toning; very good.
