Europe.- English School (circa 1820-1830) A group of 32 European costume studies, from eastern France, Switzerland, and Northern Italy, including the regional dress of Dijon, Besançon, Berne, Lucerne, Zurich, the Valais, Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, and The Monks of St Bernard, as well as Northern Italy with Venetian women, alongside others, watercolour and gouache, traces of graphite, on cream J. Whatman wove paper, several watermarked '1821', each sheet approx. 215 x 290 mm. (8 1/2 x 11 1/3 in), loose, some minor surface dirt, all unframed, [circa 1820s]. ⁂ A fascinating and particularly fine record of local and regional dress, presumably from a single journey, made by an English artist travelling to Italy in the first half of the 19th century.
