European Renaissance Revival Silver, Enamel, and Stone-set Jewel Casket, 19th century, marked only AGB, hinged lid with rectangular top with sloped sides, mounted with silver enamel figures of St. George on horseback battling the dragon, the long sides of lid mounted with masks over husk garlands, and short sides with a flowerhead, the long sides of rectangular body mounted with larger enameled grotesque masks flanked by dragon-form scrolls, the sides with medium size masks, the whole box with basse taille orange ground with bright blue, purple, and black edging, set throughout with seed pearls and accented with faceted colorless, blue, and red gemstones, with small standing herms to each corner, raised on paw feet, the lid set to interior with an enameled landscape diorama under glass of a castle on a hill by a waterfall, with a pair of trekkers with rucksacks in foreground, the interior covered by a hinged inner lid decorated with mask and bird scrollwork, the backside of inner lid set with a hand-colored engraving of an 18th century lady with a dog under glass, (damage), ht. approx. 6, wd. 4, dp. 2 5/8 in., total weight including glass etc. approx. 30 troy oz.
