Dublin. It was clearly a subject she hoped to draw on again. In 1950 when she received the prestigious commission for a large two-light window in the National Cathedral in Washington D.C. (her only major American commission), she decided to use this Biblical episode on its own. Initially the design was to show only the miraculous moment Jairus' daughter is healed by Christ, which would have filled with monumental figures (as shown here) the entire two-lights, but the eventual window was reconfigured to represent a series of six scenes. The window was installed in 1953 to wide acclaim. Dr Joseph McBrinn, November 2020
