Read more In 1950 Evie Hone was commissioned to design and make a large two-light window for the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul in Washington DC. Her original design, for which this is a preliminary sketch, filled each light with monumental figures depicting The raising of the daughter of Jairus a story taken from the Christs ministry and miracles in the Gospels. The final revised design reduced this image to the bottom of the left-hand light and integrated it into a more dynamic tripartite design depicting the wider Healing Grace of Christ. There was a delay in the production of this commission, however, due to Hones work on the east window for the Chapel at Eton College (1949-52). The Washington window was not completed until 1953.
