Lot of approx. 325, featuring a large selection of CDVs and one tintype covering a wide range of topics, from charming portraits of children posed with toys to occupational, postmortem, and interesting outdoor views. The majority of the photographs are credited to studios located throughout the United States, although some were produced/published in Europe. Highlights include: Uncredited studio portrait of a young woman who appears to be American Indian. Curious studio portrait, likely after a cased image, showing an aged woman in the act of knitting, seated beside an unusual looking gentleman, possibly mixed-race, with glasses positioned above his eyes, and a newspaper in hand, verso credit to H. Ball, Walpole, NH. Approx. 86 CDVs of children, including infants (at least one set of twins), toddlers, and teenagers, as well as portraits of siblings. Some of the subjects are posed with toys, most notably a young boy holding an African American doll; a CDV-sized tintype of a young girl grasping her doll; a little lad with hoop and stick in hand; a little girl seated on a hobby horse; a toddler-aged girl wearing a fur hat, cape, and muff, seated in a small "Winter and Fasset" sleigh; and two young boys, presumably brothers, posed in a studio with a snow scene serving as the backdrop, one pulling the other seated on a sleigh. Postmortem CDV showing a woman laid to rest in bed; and CDV of nurse seated beside a patient that may or may not be alive. Approx. 65 CDVs of lithographs/engravings made after paintings/drawings, showing identified 19th century subjects, as well as genre, comical, and literary scenes, with many published by J.P. Soule of Boston. Notable images include a portrait of Rosa Bonheur; a composite view of a mustached man mounted on a donkey pulling a cart loaded with barrels; a rendering of a mule driver; and more. Approx. 102 CDVs of men and women of varying ages posed in a studio setting, including a few portraits of couples or families. Some of the subjects are posed with books, parasols, hats, and props. One CDV features a full standing view of a young woman, looking down at a photo she holds in her hand. Also included is a portrait of a bearded gentleman who appears to be wearing a corps badge on his vest; plus a portrait of a young man smoking. Approx. 15 CDVs showing clergymen and religious paintings/sculpture. Examples include a woman identified on verso as Quaker; an "Honest Long Cut Chewing & Smoking" tobacco card showing a young altar boy resting his head on his hand, captioned "Dull Sermon"; and a composite view of the New York Conference of the Evangelical Association. Approx. 15 CDVs of sculpture, as well as lithographs/engravings made after paintings/drawings. Approx. 18 CDVs of men, women, and children dressed in traditional attire, uniforms, and costumes, with several hand-colored cartes on mounts with caption, "Costumes des Pays-Bas," and imprint of A. Jager showing men and women in Dutch regional costumes. 3 CDVs of doctors, as identified in pencil on mount recto or verso. 2 CDVs of men dressed in Masonic garb. Approx. 8 outdoor CDVs, featuring 2 large group portraits, possibly class photos; 3 views of homes; a carte of a man seated with farm equipment; a bull; and a young boy lounging in the grass. Approx. 5 occupational CDVs, one possibly showing a carpenter with a ruler and wood; an aged man with apples - possibly an apple seller; two men in uniform that appear to be police officers; and a 1.75 x 3 in. view of two girls with tall white caps and gowns. CDV of an organ with inked script on verso referencing the Aylmer Organ Factory; and a view of a floral wreath. Condition: Range in condition from good to near excellent. Some with trimmed or clipped corners/edges. Some with scattered spotting/foxing.
