COLMONT, MARIE. Complete set of three panoramas for "Album du Père Castor." 1. Panorama du Fleuve, 2. Panorama de la côte, 3. Panorama de la montagne. Paris: Flammarion, 1937-38. 3 items. 4to. Color lithographs throughout. Original color lithograph boards. Minor rubbing to edges, some internal buckling. RARE FRENCH PANORAMAS FOR CHILDREN designed by the famous avant-garde painter and designer for the theater and inscribed by the artist in ink on the front of the second title: "A mon coco Max. A.E." Paul Faucher of Flammarion sought exceptional Russian émigré artists (including Bilibin, Rojankovsky and Exter) to design his "Albums du Père Castor." These elegant views of the French countryside are among the company's masterpieces. Each panorama opens to nearly six feet with text and black and white illustrations on the verso. The three titles were issued by Harper Bros. in English in 1939 and 1940, but they were reformatted as conventional large picture books.
