I certify that this piece was used in the first successful flight in history by Orville Wright on December 17, 1903 at Kitty Hawk, N.C." bearing the signature of Lester D. Gardner. Provenance: The Otto Kallir Collection of Aviation History, Sotheby's June 14, 1993. WITH: Two pieces of wood from the Wright's hangar at Kitty Hawk, on small souvenir cards bearing photos of the hangar, printed "The First Hangar - Kitty Hawk - A true piece of the First Airplane Hangar in the World."
