Filippo et Raphaël MORGHEN. Une collection de cartes, vues, et planches représentant Naples et ses environs. Naples: planches dateés 1765-1779. Rare série de planches gravées illustrant Naples, dans un bon état de conservation. MORGHEN, Filippo (publisher and engraver, b. 1730) ) and Raphael (engraver, 1758-1853). A collection of maps, views and plates of Naples and its environs. Naples: plates dated 1765-79. Large 2° (540 x 378mm). Engraved throughout, 100 portraits, views and maps of Naples and the surrounding area on 85 leaves, most on thick blue paper. (Occasional light marginal spotting or old dampstaining, a few plates with light surface abrasions). Contemporary Italian mottled sheep, spine gilt with raised bands and blue leather lettering-piece (joints and extremities lightly scuffed, neat repair to upper cover). Provenance : Marchesi Romagnani (armorial bookplate); B.Nazzati (armorial bookplate). Rare series of engraved plates of Naples, assembled by Filippo Morghen and issued without title from his Neapolitan printshop ca 1780. Another copy offered in these rooms, 25th October 1989, lot 51, included the same suites of plates,as well as a letterpress leaf of contents in French. The present set includes all the plates previously published in 1769 under the title Le antichità di Pozzuoli, Baja, e Cuma (portrait of Ferinand IV and 40 numbered plates); the 10 views of Paestum by Antonio Jolli; 4 folding or double-page maps of Naples by Morghen dated 1772; 30 engraved views of Naples Bay, on 15 sheets, by Antonio Cardon; 6 plates and one map illustrating the eruptions of Vesuvius, dated 1772-1779; a portrait of Queen Maria of the Two Sicilies; 2 smaller maps of Naples and the Gulf; one plate of an original agate cup; 4 folding panoramic views of Naples, including Chiaia and Ponte Nuova, engraved by Antonio Cardon after Gabriele Ricciardelli FINE CONDITION.
