Fine Art Deco Carved Emerald, Ruby, and Diamond Pendant Brooch, Chaumet, Paris, set with three carved emeralds, fifty-six calibre-cut rubies, and 115 full-, old European-, and single-cut diamonds, approx. total diamond wt. 6.75 cts., with cabochon onyx and rose-cut diamond accents, all within a hinged platinum mount, lg. 5 1/4 in., maker's mark and guarantee stamps, signed Chaumet et Cie Made in France. Provenance: The Lillian S. Timken Collection of Precious Stone Jewelry, Parke-Bernet Galleries, New York, 1960, lot 8. Purchased by Frank J. Lauerman Jr., as a present for his wife, Monica. Mr. Lauerman served as the President of the Lauerman Bros. department stores based in Marinette, Wisconsin, at that time. At its peak, Lauerman Bros. had thirteen stores throughout Wisconsin, Michigan, and Iowa, competing with the likes of Sears and J.C. Penney prior to those businesses entering catalog sales. Lauerman Bros. even sponsored a semi-pro football team, the Lauerman Twins, who played football against the famed Green Bay Packers. The former flagship store in Marinette is a registered historic place. Frank Jr. also served on the board of Directors for the Stephenson National Bank for forty years and as its President for seven years before passing in 1977. The Lauermans were avid world travelers, taking three around the world cruises and visiting over 40 nations, and as jewelry enthusiasts, purchased and appreciated beautiful jewelry from all over the world. In 1985, Monica gave the brooch to her daughter Helen Musser, who, in 2007, along with her husband John Musser, passed away, leaving the brooch to their three children.
