Beschreibung:

first American edition, original cloth, gilt, a fine copy, dust-jacket, spine very slightly darkened, minute tissue repairs to head of spine and upper corner, small light damp-stain to foot of spine, but overall a fine copy, preserved in folding chemise and custom morocco slip-case with gilt design in imitation of the upper cover, spine a little faded, 8vo, New York, 1925. *** A superb copy of Hemingway's first major work in the very scarce dust-jacket. The first American edition exapanded on the vignettes published in in our time (see lot ENTER NUMBER) by including a further 14 short stories and using the vignettes as breaks between each. A huge critical success, In Our Time failed to sell well, a fate perhaps reflected by Hemingway's parents own views of the book: they referred to it only as 'filth'.
