Selten. - Der Verfasser Fabio Colonna (1567-1640), eigentlich ein gelernter Rechtsanwalt, widmete sein Leben ganz dem Studium der Heilpflanzen, nachdem er durch Dioscorides von der heilenden Wirkung des Baldrians erfahren hatte und mit diesem Mittel seine epileptischen Anfälle erfolgreich behandeln konnte. - Das vorliegende Werk beschreibt im ersten Teil die medizinische Wirkung von insgesamt 26 Pflanzen, wobei er sich auf antike Autoren stützt, dabei aber durchaus ein kritisches Auge behält. Der zweite Teil enthält weitere 11 Abbildungen (davon 2 mit Fischen). - Die schönen Illustrationen sind von Colonna selbst nach der Natur gezeichnet und auch radiert worden. Die Radiertechnik erlaubte es ihm, "to draw every line of the illustration exactly as he wished it to print, without the necessity of another hand to cut the printing surface.
