The address side with the alternative rate mark crossed through and "INDIA" in large oval, the reverse with two fine London transit c.d.s. (16.11) and a superb strike of the boxed "british/foreign" handstamp struck in London. The contents are not long but includes the news, "I arrived here last night ... Mr Hughes is here but we can do no business at present, all the British merchants are here and will remain till Capt. Elliot receives answers from England to his despatches as yet I have not learnt the particular of the row" (the incident of Lin Weixi).
