FIRST SPACE RENDEZVOUS MISSION – Master Countdown (Gemini) 7 & 6 . Cape Canaveral, FL: Martin Company, 15 October 1965. The countdown manual for the first space rendezvous mission with revisions up to 22 November 1965, signed by the Gemini 6 crew. SIGNED and INSCRIBED by Wally SCHIRRA, and Tom STAFFORD. The most extraordinary launch effort of the entire Gemini Program occurred during December 1965. Gemini 7 was successfully launched into earth orbit on December 4. After just 9 days, the pad was restored to launch status for Gemini 6 on December 12. However on that day a launch pad umbilical shook loose just before lift-off which shut down the Titan rocket engines. Further inspection revealed a fuel line dust cap was not removed which might have shut down the entire engine system just after lift-off. Loss of this mission and crew would have delayed the entire Gemini Program, casting doubt if the lunar landing could be accomplished within four years by 1969. All problems were corrected and on December 15, the Gemini 6 crew rendezvoused with astronauts Frank Borman and James Lovell in Gemini 7. The manual comprises six sections including Precount, Countdown, Recycle Procedures, and Emergency Conditions. The count begins at T- 770 minutes down to a T-0 engine ignition and T + 3 second lift-off. 8.5 by 11 inches. 49 pp. Spiral-bound heavy card stock wrappers.
