FISHER, Richard (1809-1890) -- Catalogue of a Collection of Engravings, Etchings and Woodcuts . N.p.: Privately Printed by John C. Wilkins, 1879. Thick 4 o (290 x 203 mm). Sectional titles within ornamental borders, one printed in red and black, ornamental initial letters throughout, 65 reproductions, EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED with 4 portrait engravings on India paper. Interleaved throughout with blank paper. Original quarter morocco, t.e.g., others uncut (a bit rubbed). Provenance : Richard Fisher (author's copy, see below). THE COLLECTOR'S OWN ANNOTATED COPY, with Fisher's notes on the interleavings and in the text, of his scarce, privately printed catalogue of early illustrated books and prints from the Italian, German, Spanish, French, Dutch and Flemish schools. Copies of the catalogue were never offered for sale. Fisher, born to a wealthy Sussex family, spent his entire fortune on the acquisition of early engravings and woodcuts, an activity to which he dedicated sixty years of his life. Unique to this copy are the penciled prices in the sections of Italian and German early printed books, presumably the prices paid by Dyson Perrins when he acquired the library en bloc before it was to be sold by Fisher's son, R.C. Fisher, at Sotheby's, 21 May 1906. De Ricci gives only a passing reference to Fisher and his collection. Lugt 2204-5.
