SAPPHO alabaster figure with gilt highlights, signed and inscribed to the base PROF A PITRILLI/ FIRENZE/ SAPHO 48.5cm high Provenance: An English Collection of Works of Art Note: Petrilli established his own studio at via Serragli, 152, in Florence. He specialised in romanticised figures of classical and historical themes, often celestial and ethereal maidens using coloured marbles or bronze or gilt highlights.
