Varying in cover design, size (5.5 x 8.5" to 8 x 10") and length (32 to 48pp.) The School was sponsored by the adjacent Grand Central Art Galleries, located on the 7th floor of Grand Central Terminal, which promoted avant garde styles in New York art circles, staging the landmark 1931 exposition of Indian Tribal Arts (see imprints of that exhibition also offered in this sale), and including among its early instructors modernist painter Arshile Gorky While founded in 1922 by “traditional” painter John Singer Sargent and sculptor Daniel Chester French much of the (often uncredited) work by the School’s 900 students displayed in these catalogs has a distinctive Art Deco and Art Moderne flavor. • Grand Central School of Art…A Modern School of Art / Season 1926 to 1927. 5.5 x 8.5”, 47pp. Original wrappers.
