(St. John's Church was located at the corner of 37th & Langley Avenues in Chicago. Recipes include soft shell crabs, chicken pie with oysters, pickled beef tongue, blackberry pudding, etc. Soiling & some stains to covers; joints cracked, else good; scarce). Chicago: Kehm, Fietsch & Wilson, 1891. Ladies’ Aid Society of the Avondale Methodist Episcopal Church. Favorite Recipes. Ads for Chicago businesses throughout. Pictorial tan cloth. 1st Ed. (Wonderful recipes for raspberry shrub, date & walnut cake, sour lamb roast, smoked haddock with mustard gravy, codfish with walnuts, crab kromeskies, pickled beets, and a surprising recipe for tamales. Stevenson Memorial Cook Book. Jacket. First Edition. (A Chicago group ran the women's shelter established in 1893 by Dr. Stevenson, the first woman to be admitted to the American Medical Association. Recipes for and from a broad range of women include "A Porto Rican dinner," Indian vegetable curry, Cuban rice, Italian spaghetti, hominy croquettes, kohlrabi, etc. Fine in very good, scarce jacket).
