Fleming | Chelsea") in pencil on front free endpaper, eight lines of verse in Fleming's autograph in pencil on rear endpaper, original red cloth, spine label A[rnold] W. S[mith]. The Isle of Mistorak and other poems. London: George Allen & Unwin Ltd, 1926. FIRST EDITION, ownership inscription ("Ian Fleming. | 1926.") in black ink on front free endpaper, five lines of verse in Fleming's autograph in pencil on rear endpaper, one similar line on front free endpaper together with various ink notes seemingly in another hand, original boards, labels to spine and upper board both 8vo, collector's blue cloth folding box Both these volumes have been intensively read by the young Ian Fleming with several textual underlinings (which focus on lines such as "lusty bachelors" and "the psychic tension that has wrought my ill"). These are evocative of Fleming's difficult adolescence. The young Fleming also wrote verses on the read endpapers of both volumes, presumably of his own composition: "Dreams like swallowsgilded desolationthe shadows fall behind uswhen we walktowards the light" PROVENANCE: From the Library of Ian Fleming
